If you are a Millennial, these trending phrases may sound familiar because this is what has been circulating around the working world about you. As a Millennial myself, these blanket statements seemed slightly offensive until I took a step back and evaluated the truth some of them had. And while we could go into a deep analysis as to why and how these stereotypes have originated and how they’ve permeated the current marketplace, we’ve decided that’s probably not the most productive use of our time. The bottom line is that we do not want these stigmas sticking with us as we enter the workplace.  We’ve dedicated this post to offering some useful suggestions to combat our tainted reputation and, ultimately, to work towards closing the generation gap!

While many of us believe that Labor Day marks the end of summer, September 22nd is in fact the first day of fall. For many of us, it means we're officially back to the daily grind of the 5 day work week and a busy fall season until the holidays. It's easy to put your career goals on the back burner through the summer months with Summer Friday’s, sun tans and barbeques on your mind. So our advice is to use the next couple of months to evaluate your current work situation. Are you happy in your current role? How can you expand on your responsibilities? Where can you improve? Making adjustments/improvements to your day-to-day work habits can be very rewarding, especially when you see the fruits of your labor. Or perhaps you've used summer to avoid the inevitable truth--you're not happy or you're not challenged in your current role.

We all know what Summer brings: the influx of bright-eyed, bushy-tailed recent college grads ready to hit the ground running and start their careers. The trouble is that many of them do not have a strong sense of what they really want to do now that they’re all grown up nor should they have to considering a majority of internships consist of waiting around for the next menial task to be thrown at them that really does not require a college degree. Internships are great and we see many college grads continue to intern after graduation just to gain experience and stay competitive in this difficult job market. While that’s honorable, these internships are unpaid and after spending all that money towards a degree, you deserve a paycheck!

Your “how to” blog post should teach the reader how to do something by breaking it down into a series of steps.

Begin your blog post by explaining what problem you are going to solve through your explanation and be sure to include any relevant keywords. Add in a personal story to establish your credibility on this topic. And make sure to end your blog post with a summary of what your reader will gain by following your lead.
